Zouk music pouring out of tape players, bars and nightclubs will remind you, however, that Martinique vacations have a specificity of their own, solidly based on West Indian Creole traditions. Another favorite musical genre, bele is an early form of biguine which incorporates group dance and song accompanied by drumming, often led in a call and response style. For most of the year, local music dominates. But during Carnival, other music like calypso and soca can be heard as well. Martinique is warm year-round, with temperatures usually peaking close to 30°C during the day. The best time to plan Martinique vacations is the slightly cooler, drier season of late winter to early spring (February to May). |
